Personality Education fosters Emotional Intelligence

The mission of Personality Academy is to encourage understanding of personality dynamics so students can appreciate individual differences and embrace their own individuality. If a student is able to “get curious instead of furious” when they encounter someone who is behaving differently than they would in that situation, then we have succeeded.

The instructional material found here is designed to provide insights into the motivations behind behaviors, promote empathy, and lay the foundation for Emotional Intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the capability of individuals to recognize their own and other people’s emotions, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt to environments or achieve one’s goal(s).

Nonviolent Communication (NVC), also called Compassionate Communication, is a process for working through the conflict that arises when two individuals have contrasting strategies for having their own needs and values met. It proposes that if people can identify their own needs, the needs of others, and the feelings that surround these needs—harmony can be achieved.

Combining elements from NVC and personality awareness provides a powerful avenue for reframing perspectives, opening up lines of communication, and developing emotional intelligence.
